Ive always had strong feelings for skins! They are really cool.. I feel it will attract more people to our servers. Not sure if its possible:P it would be cool to give admins and donators and maybe like top10 players cool perks. I feel NG would get more donations this way just a suggestion peace yall

Its a nice suggestion but its been asked loads of time before and the answer will always be no. The reason being is because most players don't want to wait to download the skin(s), as it causes an increase of latency on the servers, skin confrontation with some configurations and is more of a pain to maintain if enabled.

If you log into any server right now (like Hideout), you pop in almost immediately due to the fact that there is nothing extra to download. Skins would make our players download them every time they log in, plus it would cause more strain for the server to make sure that the skins are downloading correctly.

So that is one of the main reasons why we won't have our own skins, however you can have personal *skins on your game since this doesn't affect our servers. We do have a few skins made for players to use if they wish (I'll add the download links when I find them)

*Skins can be dangerous and harmful to your game, some skins can be illegal to use and is a VAC ban-able offense. So keep that in mind before you download any skin(s).

Brenner is somewhat right.

We have looked at this in the past, on hold at the moment.

As internet speeds increase this should no longer be a major issue.

Not really, if you are brand new to the server, you would need to download all the custom admin mani mod files and the quake sounds as well. Some people forget about these because you dont have to download them over and over.

On ng's surf server, you have to download each individual map from the server. I use to play a shit load of surf and I never noticed the server lagging from somebody downloading a map. I believe you can throttle the download speed so it doesn't become unplayable.

I would disagree, the skins that allow people to see through walls will always affect a game server. Just depending on the cheaters' "skill" level and if the server decides he is a major threat and hurting traffic for other people, then he would be banned. NG does a good job of making sure the servers are fun to play on.

Totally agree, make sure you only download the ones that are legit.



I also think that you can redirect the traffic needed to download the skins from a ftp server. This wouldn't mess with the actual css server itself, assuming there is enough bandwidth for the ftp server. Either way it would probably cost a little extra for skins to be downloaded from the server. A lot of people don't like to wait 20 minutes to download them either.

To use pure server mode on a server, set the sv_pure console variable to 1 or 2. Then, on the next map change, the server will ensure that the content (materials, models, and sounds) on client machines matches what is specified.
By default, the server will kick clients whose custom content varies from that the server is using. By setting sv_pure_kick_clients to 0, the server will only display a warning about clients using this kind of "impure" custom content. The server can force the client to use content provided by the game, and will never kick players who have only modded default content, like custom skins or models.

This whitelist.txt file, IF setup properly. Can allow "SOME" custom skins/models. I think if NG setup this file, it would allow only certain models/skins. I know this topic has been brought up over and over again. I honestly think that if it was setup correctly, it wouldn't effect the people that are using skins/models only for the purpose of changing a gun / player model.
It would be a lot of work and probably just not worth the time though. Sure, the cheaters wouldn't be allowed to join, but in the long run I think NG will know what's best for the server.

Download files will not be given out, Sorry. If the skins are implemented on the NG Server you can copy it from you CSS folder.

Thats why these two are together, if you download a skin that modifies the original use of the gun such as a laser pointer and such, it can be considered as a VAC ban offense. Downloading skins is a very dangerous motion, you never know if the skinner is trying to get you VACed and should always been handled carefully.

Also, if we do enable skins, some regs aren't gonna like this idea and might just get up and quit. We definately don't want that and that's why I love NG so much is because we don't have to worry about skin issues conflicting with our servers. Having it on will probably cause issues down the road and some players don't like having skins on. NG never had skins because we didn't need them, it made playing the game more fun because you didn't see people running around with "custom skins" for what ever reasons.

No point, we have fastdl, just look up the file and download it. We do this for zombie and minigame for the map pack. Plus we don't want to start adding more funds to our total bill. If we get skins enabled, we'll add a fastdl link to download them or figure out something when we get there.

I know this point has been brought up a few times about having NG skins, and each time it was brought up we decided no so I was going with that notion but I guess I was wrong lol, I just don't like the idea of downloading the skin and sitting there downloading them, that right there is going to be the killer on our traffic and that is part of the reason why we (as in Adam) decided against it.

However, I didn't say I was totally against having skins, I just think we don't need them and would be more of a annoyance than a benefit.

ahhh, all bullshit aside I've been a fan of this idea since day 1, and would get really excited really fast if it ever actually happened.. Maybe management will surprise us this time

p.s. that skin is SICK

cool idea but i can see where some people would be annoyed with the dl....the dl really isnt a big deal takes less than 10 seconds on any other server i play with admin skins on them ... however i have noticed sudden lag jerks at times when people join up ... if that has to do with the dling im not sure ... but that would only last for a second

a suggestion to support this idea, how about the skins that are added you guys post somewhere in the forums for all of your regs and we download it in advance so that we dont have to download them while in game? dont know if thats possible though.
