Thread: Not allowed to have #Niger in my name?

I come into the Dust2 server yesterday or maybe the day before, and I have the name: "KEVINLOL #Niger"

I was told by admin ZBONE1 that I was forced to change my name or I was instantly banned. I say to him, "But Niger is a country...what's the problem?" I get the response, "Do I look like I care? Change it or you're banned".

Now, can I get a detailed response as to why #Niger is not allowed in my name? Because I remember being in the NG office server, with KEVINLOL #Niger. An admin said to me "why don't you put on the NG tag KEVIN", and I said "I'll put it on, if you put on my tag" And the admin put on the #Niger tag. Now this is an admin, putting on my tag, because I asked him to. He had no problems, and neither did the other 4 admins online in the NOOBGALORE office server that day.

Now can I get an explanation as to why Niger is not allowed in my name in the DUST2 server? Niger is a country in South Africa, I can link you guys the Wikipedia page if you want.

Another fun fact: While in the office server, no one complained about #Niger in anyway, and there was 30+ people in there.

Well zbone may have been getting a lot of complaints since your name is very close to the n word. To avoid people from complaining he asked you to change the name. The job of the admins on noobgalore is to keep as many people on the server as happy as possible. If that means changing ONE persons name to keep the rest of the server happy then so be it. I dont really see a big problem here unless he perma banned you or something. Just change your name to keep everyone else on the server happy...that way we can avoid confrontations.

We try to deal with racism in a decent way. Obviously your name is a country, but most of the time "KIDS" come into the servers and try to be smart asses by putting racist words in different terms. As I can see how "Niger" can be interpreted as a way to try to get away with saying the 'N' word.

Anyways, we try to leave it alone, but if we get complaints about it we tend to ask the person to change it so everyone's happy.

Hold on man, my dad is black (which makes me black) and thats not ok for me man....its extremely disrespectful and IS racism no matter how they say it....and it shouldn't be tolerated!

So if someone were to come in with the name "Cpt. Brenner #FireCracker", I should be offended because I'm white?

Its the name of a country. He should have politely removed it when asked, because he is asking for drama with that tag. And you should be able to get over it, because its the name of a country.

We understand Niger is a country for sure, but the problem is that its so close to the n word that we cant allow people to have it in their name, because someone who is African American could be in the server, misread it as the n word, get offended, and never come back. We have to respect everyone in our server, yellow, black, white, tan, or whatever. One of our rules is no racism at all, and although you yourself are not being racist, someone else could interpret it another way, so to be preventative, the easiest thing is to take it out while you play with us on our servers hope you understand this issue from our point of view better now. Shock is exactly right with the excuse of saying the word in the server, we have a no racism policy, I have been an admin in surf for quite sometime and know the kids love to find excuses for being racist while not worrying about getting banned, I had you change it to save everyone the trouble. They also usually say its only a country and usually all they want to do is cause problems and get the attention they need.
