Thread: Advertising in servers: how far is too far?

So today someone was saying they need to get a job and how hard it is in this job market, so I told them they should put their resume up on careerbuilder.com and forward their resume to some job positions in their area. Then E warned me that advertising in NG servers is not allowed... Which kind of set me back, since I didn't think advertising a job listings website was what the no advertising rule was meant to apply to. Is careerbuilder.com that big of a threat to NG? is NG planning on getting into the job opportunities listing business? should I stop advertising the english language by speaking it, or about Obama's latest speeches (no .us advertising!), or about how the weather is locally, or what I'm wearing while I stroke my nipples in a counterclockwise manner while staring at nippz sprays ingame?

How far is too far here? does this apply to any/everything any admin deems advertising, or only to other servers/CS:S related websites?

(E said this sub-board specifically was the place for these things... don't blame me for bad info if that is incorrect ;p Also note that I am in no way connected to careerbuilders.com except that I gained employment through that website as a third party )

This wouldn't be a big deal, when we refer to advertising we namely refer to gaming related...However if you were in there spamming the URL , or keeping the URL in your name then I would have taken action.

This is a simple misunderstanding and we will re-iterate such circumstances in our next admin meeting on Saturday Feburary 28th.

It just would depend on how far you took it, if you were just helping someone with a simple suggestion such as where to find orange grapes...Thats fine, however in the circumstance someone was asking for 'hey wheres that headless awp server' and you respnded with www.careerbuilder.com we would consider that spam...

Sir, The url was only sent once. There wasn't any link spamming or anything else, from my point of view this was the entirety of the situation (Except afterwords when I got a little sarcastic and abused your admin a little bit, sorry. E has a lot of patience, especially for someone who seemed to be having a bad day. Sorry, and thanks, E!)
