Default Idea to keep the dust 2 reg right.

After playing the dust 2 server for the past year I found often the server gets stale and the registration becomes garbage. Here are some Ideas I've found to work wonders on my own gaming community's servers. Every 45minutes to a few hours the server should rotate the map back de_dust 2. This can be done by removing all other maps out the the rotation text file and simply adding a time limit to the server cfg. Daily restarts are a must as-well. Just throwing some idea your way guys!

Appreciate your suggestion, unfortunately this isn't something you should practice. Source has always had documented memory holes with map loading. Every time a map is reloaded it consumes more memory that isn't needed, as this is done the problems are compounded.

    Thanks,

Eh , Sorry you feel that way. I don't really believe that to be true, but alright.

Changing the map has never fixed anything. :-)

Also, the problem with Dust2 is that you have players in there that "complain about reg" whether the Server has 50 rounds or 2000 on it..

In my experience for the past year that I've played dust 2, reg has never been an issue for me. From my observations, reg is not server issue unless the server is completely full and dropping packets which also does not seem to be the case.

Everyone blames the server when when the real culprits seem to be connection, computer, and reaction.

From playing on the server lately, many people do complain about the "reg" issue. Your point is valid when you say that the main culprit is mostly computer, reactions, or connection related problems; but sometimes the server does have a noticeable choppiness to it. This is a great idea, but sadly as Paul has said, you really do need an SSA/SA/GA(with high enough privileged) to restart the server in order to fix the "reg" problem.

For the most part you can trace your routing and see where packets are dropped. That is the biggest issue and has nothing to do with the server. Sadly companies in this country dot have to care as long as they profit.

As for everyone complaining, that is a psychological issue.

-when there is an issue we blame things (typically the easiest option) t
-people have been complaining about reg forever
-D2 players tend to fall under a select few archetypes

Essentially we will blame other things than say that we could have been wrong. So one person will blame reg. There will be other people who are doing poorly who will think maybe thy have the same issue. Eventually you have a mass psychological centralisation to a problem regardless of what it really is. It happens in so many other aspects in life, so why not here.

Maybe if we restarted the server after every round, this wouldn't be an issue. I'll send an email to the server owner and tell him to restart everything non stop. BTW, my computer lags some, restart server!

I vote that bot sits in d2 all day and handles this...

Shoot better. It fixes all the issues. Just cause many people think they should get headshots every shot doesn't mean the reg is bad.

I use to run and manage a dust2 server for around 2 years through art of war central and I never had an issue with the server getting choppy really bad like it does sometimes on NG, unless it sat empty for a day or so then it would need a quick map change or restart and it would be 100% for the next few days. I have never had an lag issue with the server or any other, its just most shots get cheated from people. I see it happen all the time, even if its a pub still it can be a tad frustrating. But thanks for listening guys.
